Air Max Nation: The Biggest AIR Yet 270
The Air Max 270 is all about the AIR. The heel bag is the largest Nike has created and released so far. The evolution of AIR is a timeline of invention and creation by Nike designers. It all began with NASA engineer Frank Rudy and was first found in the midsole of the 1978 Tailwind. Rudy took “walking on AIR” from his days of aerospace engineering and gave consumers a lighter, bounce in their step. Once AIR became visible in 1987 Nike has continued to design and influence sneakerheads and athletes with innovation. Designed for all day wear Nike’s first lifestyle AIR shoe, the 270 molds to the wearers foot with its mesh upper and dual density foam layer. Currently this AIR bag is the tallest in the history of Nike with its 270 degrees of visible AIR. Taking inspiration from the Air Max 180 with the cushioned unit that is exposed to the ground and the Air Max 93 with the first half-length Air Max bag. The first of lifestyle sneakers that includes AIR, Marie Odinot, a Nike designer developed the upper and was led by Senior Director Dylaan Raasch leading the way to engineer the huge heel bag coming in at 15% bigger than its predecessors.
An Air Max favorite from 1993 is back. It features a combination upper and the enlarged, blow-molded Max Air unit that marked the debut of the original. It’s 270 degree AIR inspires the 270 seen today.

Just last week Nike announced they are going even bigger with their Air Max 720. While the 270 Air bag clock in at 32mm high, the 720 takes it to 38mm. 720 comes from an AIR unit that is 360 degrees of visible AIR. Expect these to drop after the new year.
