Fashion week is upon us once again in New York City and people all over the world are migrating to be a part of the scene. It’s basically holiday season for the fashionistas and fashion critics of the world.

Fashion Week gives us the chance to take a peek at the trends all the brands are following for their future releases, putting followers ahead of the curve up to a year in advance.  There are parties, fashion shows, and countless industry events to attend, to connect with the drivers of fashion and pick their brain for some insight on what the future holds.

Who better to start off fashion week in New York City than one of today’s top fashion ambassadors and trend setters in ASAP Rocky?  ASAP Rocky has quickly become a fashion icon setting the direction for which way fashion is moving. Rocking everything from the latest trends to vintage pieces, it almost seems that Rocky can be accredited with everyone wanting to dress better and be more fashion savvy. Always dropping designer names and fashion labels, Rocky is consistently on the threshold of everything fashionable.

For Rocky’s latest experiment in fashion he got a chance to collaborate with legendary designer Jeremy Scott. Mentioning the designer in many of his songs ASAP Rocky has been a long time fan of Scott’s following his work since he first started making collaborative pieces with adidas, even wearing some of his earlier shoes in his first music videos, including “Get High” featuring ASAP Ferg. In that video, Rocky had on a pair of silver triple tongue loafers by Scott. Years later, Rocky now gets to make his own shoe with one of his favorite designers and we got the special opportunity to attend the sneaker press conference which hosted the two fashion symbols for some Q&A.

There was a long line outside of the adidas Original store in SoHo that was full of people waiting for the chance to just get a glimpse of ASAP Rocky and the ASAP Mob:

Commenting on why they chose to do that particular sneaker over any other design or piece ASAP Rocky said “Jeremy always knew that the ‘Wing 2.0’ was my favorite design.” He expressed that the red white and blue ‘Wing’ sneaker was his favorite shoe by the designer so it only made sense to remake that model. “Black is ASAP’s color. The flag thing? C’mon, thats why I was in love with the red white and blue one. I just think these sneakers without being complex fit everything about me,” says Rocky. The shoe is almost a reflection of himself and a representation of his style. He went on to say: “This is just the tip of the iceberg, this is for fun, this was last minute for Jeremy.” Assuring the audience that there will be more work to look forward to from these two:

Jeremy Scott described his design process of the shoe saying he seen how iconic the first ‘Wings’ became with the rappers image and just wanted to do something that would portray his style and make him happy at the same time. “I asked myself how could I capture that? and I was just looking at the album cover and it just hit me, black flag” Scott said explaining how he was inspired by Rocky being wrapped in a black and white image of the American flag. He went on to describe his creative process as “instantaneous” communicating to the audience, that he likes his work to be organic. As far as the selection of material for the shoe, Jeremy said, “I wanted a tough exterior and I wanted to redo the embroidery of the stars and stripes.”

Giving us insight to his thought process for creation Jeremy Scott said “I think of everything I design for adidas as their own individual voices, I look at it as this is a group of people that can all come to a party together, these are all of my different friends and their different personalities.”

When asked what he learned from the experience Jeremy Scott said, “The hip-hop culture is one of the few places you see actual new fashion trends happening.”
