Once Shaquille O’Neal returned to the Reebok Classic team earlier this year, we collectively knew that a slew of classic and signature Reebok releases were in our future. Following the huge response to the original Shaq Attaq release and Shaqnosis, Reebok Classic has another retro banger scheduled to hit shelves soon.
Initially released in only two colorways, one mockup for home and another for away, the Reebok Shaq Attaq has been a highly collectible sneaker silhouette since its original launch 20 years ago in 1993. Having never been re-released prior to this year, sneakerheads have been clamoring for a retro release of both colorways. With the “Away” colorway scheduled to hit shelves on Friday, August 30th, we can all finally add these classics to our ever growing sneaker collection.
Although it was not marketed as heavy as the “OG” Shaq Attaqs during its initial run, the “Black/Blue” colorway is sure to be greeted by open arms once it re-launches. Featuring a black leather base with soft black nubuck overlays, the iconic lines of this retro basketball silhouette are set off by the blue azure accents along the tongue and each side of the ankle. Staying true to form to the original, the functional Pump technology and graphite shank plate are still in place just in case you want to lace these up and hit the hardwood. Along with the Orlando Magic-esque colorway, the Shaq Attaq prominently displays the signature Shaquille O’Neal “Dunkman” logo stitched along the heel and as a woven logo tag on the inside of the tongue. With the Rudyard Kipling inspired “All men count on you, but none to much” quote on the sockliner, you might feel inspired to shatter some backboards just like “The Diesel” himself. Classic in looks and classic in style, this is one retro basketball sneaker that will be hard to pass up.
Look to purchase the Black/Blue Reebok Shaq Attaq at YCMC on August 30th, 2013 for a retail price of $160.
