Shoe City was "Ballin" a few days ago. I literally mean "Ballin" in a few different ways. In celebration of the Converse Aero Jam re-release we held a special Converse CONS Sneaker Collection launch party at our Shoe City location within the Mall at Prince Georges with rap superstar Jim Jones and a NBA 2K14 Xbox One tournament.
Fast forward to February 14, 2014, we created an NBA 2K14 Xbox One tournament for our customers to take part in to celebrate the highly anticipated re-release of the Converse Aero Jams. The challenge consisted of 16 player bracket to battle head to head with the chance to win a free pair of the Converse Aero Jams, a $350 shopping spree and the opportunity to play hip-hop superstar Jim Jones in the finals. The day's energy rose as the brackets began to fill up and challengers began to defeat their opponents in deficits of twenty points or more. As the NBA 2K14 challenge was well underway with customers locked in to the high-definition screens, we snuck in Jim Jones through the back of the store. Once inside, we hooked Jim up with a fresh pair Aero Jams and then brought him out where he was greeted by a wave of anxious customers. As he walked through our store, he made sure everyone knew to pick up the latest from his brand Vampire Life.
After engaging customers and setting the stage for the competition at hand, the finals were finally underway as Jim Jones battled a young opponent for King of NBA 2K14 or what most ball players would call "King of The Court." It started out as fast pace chess match between both players, exchanging leads back and forth which soon opened up to what would be twenty point blow-out in favor of the challenger. With plenty of spectators on-site and excited for the upset, they eventually witnessed a local kid beating one of the most notable rappers stirred up some excitement. To sum it all up, it was a great event and wouldn't have been possible without the cooperation of all those involved including Converse, Jim Jones, 93.9 WKYS and our entire staff.
